Here is Why You Should Never Scratch Mosquito Bites

It is an advise easier to give than follow, but according to scientists scratching mosquito bite, would make it much worse.

Researchers from the University of Leeds found that Inflammation (that is the raised spot which apppears after a mosquito has bitten you) not only helps (a virus) to cause an infection quicker, it also helps it to spread around the body increasing the chances of a severe illness, thereby scratching it is just a way to also increase the chances of this illness.

In the new study, the researchers used mice to study the bites of the Yellow Fever Mosquito, the species which spreads infections such as Zika, Dengue and Chikungunya

When a mosquito bites, it injects saliva into the skin (which is meant to stop the blood for clotting). The saliva triggers an immune response in which white blood cells called myeloid and neutrophils rush to the site.
But instead of helping, some of the cells get infected and accidentally clone the virus, researchers found.

The researchers injected viruses similar to Chikungunya into the skin of the mice without a bite and compared the reaction to that of a mosquito bite.

The results according to them showed that without a bite and its inflammation, the virus failed to replicate, whereas the presence of a bite resulted in high levels of the virus in the skin.

Dr. Clive McKimmie, a research fellow at the School of Medicine and Senior author of the study said "We now want to look at whether medications such as anti-inflammatory creams can stop the virus from establishing an infection, if used quickly enough after the bite inflammation appears.

Hope you will now slow down of the scratching....
