Wearing Underwear to Bed can be Dangerous for your Health - Experts

I can't remember the last time I slept without underwear, Can you?  Well stop according to a health expert, that could be bad for your health.

American Gynaecologist Dr. Alyssa Dweck disclosed that she told her patients to stop wearing their underwear before sleep.  (A gynaecologist is a doctor skilled in the treatment of women's diseases, especially those of the reproductive organs, in case you didn't know)

The reason being that wearing constricting underwear through the night can create the best environment for a host of unpleasantness particularly in women, as the fabric which is not moisture wicking or absorbent, then moisture collects, creating the perfect breeding ground for yeast, and a high risk of infections.
The information she gave was supported Dr Shirley McQuade, Medical Director of Dublin’s Well Woman Centre who also revealed that wearing underwear overnight can lead the way for infections such as thrush and bacteria vaginosis.

“Wearing underwear to bed can cause problems for women as temperature increases in the private area leading to a low circulation which allows yeast and bacteria to thrive causing infections.

“It isn’t just underwear either. Wearing tight lycra (relating to spandex) while working out can also be a cause of recurring infections in women and I would always advise them to wear loose clothing while at the gym and cotton underwear,” she said.

Well this information is not for women alone as men share a part in this, according to experts wearing your boxers to bed can have an impact on your fertility.

As said earlier, the underwear increases the temperature of the area , in men, the scrotum which which it temperature affects sperm count is just outside the body. The increase in temperature decreases sperm count, and impacts on the man's fertility.

“Men who sit down at work would also be vulnerable to this problem, as well as men who wear lycra while exercising,” she said.

So whats the way forward, notice I said may affect and not will affect, meaning that this is not liable to everyone, but I say better safe than sorry.

Well sleeping naked has great health benefits, although the mosquitoes and other insects that fly by night wouldn't let the common man sleep naked at night.
