Awww. The harmattan this year was terrible, but sure not like the last one, If you missed my post on how to clear your nose when blocked with just your fingers and tongue then check it out .

Certainly cold and catarrh can be very frustrating, imagining talking to someone and you immediately sneeze a lump of mucus on them. Don't want to be the person at the other end.



First, 

Causes of Common Cold  and Catarrh 

Catarrh is caused by the excessive discharge or buildup of mucus in the nose and also throat, associated with inflammation of the mucous membrane. while cold is caused by a virus which is easily contracted. Cold and Catarrh  it presents itself with blocked nasal passages, dripping and excess nose blowing.

Natural Remedies

Rather than rushing to chemist stores every single time get drugs which may lead to certain side effects, there are naturally ingredients that can be applied for relief in this situation and can prevent recurrence.

1. Vitamin C 

This vitamin has been known to perform important function in the welfare of the body. The function of this vitamin is to support your immune system and recovery from illnesses. It also helps combat underlying infection. Thereby preventing a recurrence. so whenever you fell sick get vitamin C which is present in orange juice, tomatoes, broccoli and strawberries

2. Hot Tea: 

Drinking plenty of liquids during the period of the cold will help you stay hydrated. An essential kind of tea. "Black Tea" which is particularly very effective against sore throat and will help eliminate the chills with an addition of virus-fighting interferon and a squeeze of lemon (for vitamin C).

This is just one of the many health benefits garlic can provide you. The regular and daily use of garlic might reduce the frequency and number of colds. It has antiseptic, anti-bacterial properties help in treating throat irritations and the severity of upper respiratory tract infections. (Cold and Catarrh).

How to apply
Boil four to five cloves of chopped garlic in a cup of water, then add a teaspoon of honey before drinking it two to three times a day. For those of you that can tolerate the raw smell, you can eat the raw garlic or you can use a few drops of the oil in your food and drinks.

Pepper 
4. Pepper: 

Of course Pepper. It can be used in many ways to treat the various symptoms of common cold. Capsaicin
components present in pepper clear out congested mucus membranes in your nose and lungs, thereby giving you relief of the congestion in your lungs and helps your body eliminates toxins by sweating. Through Gargling, eating drinking and smelling it will bring immense relief.

How to apply 
If you are suffering from symptoms of common cold you should definitely eat better with a meal.
Also if you are brave enough you can try gargling with pepper and hot water.
For those who cannot eat pepper in meal or drink it you can benefit by smelling pepper regularly.

Honey
5. Honey:

There are numerous health benefits honey can provide you. Honey can be used as an antioxidant, it also has antimicrobial, antibacterial and anti-fungal properties, and it is a rich source of minerals and vitamin

How to apply 
Mix honey and lemon juice in lukewarm water (neither cold nor hot). Drinking this solution several times a day you can get great relief from cold and cough.

Ginger 
6. Ginger

Ginger is a natural antiviral (It helps to fight against infections that causes cold) and fortunately it is one of the commonly available means of treating the symptoms of common cold.

How to apply
Ginger should be eaten raw several times a day. Also you can take ginger tea, both helps to get some relief  can eat raw ginger or drink ginger tea several times a day to get some relief.

How to Make Tea

Add a cup of boiling water to grated ginger and allow to steep for 3 minutes.

Mix 1 tablespoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice (for vitamin C to boost up the immune system) and a tablespoon of honey (an antibiotic that helps to soothe your throat as stated above) together and strain the ginger tea into it.
